1. The "Image-Only" Newsletter
It’s tempting to design a beautiful flyer in Canva, save it as a JPG, and blast it out. Don't do this. Many Outlook users disable images by default. If your whole email is one image, your customer sees a blank white box with a red 'X'.
2. Ignoring the "Fat Finger" Rule
Perth customers are often checking emails while on the move. If your buttons are too small, they are impossible to click. Buttons should be at least 44x44 pixels.
Pro Tip: Place your primary button "above the fold" so users don't have to scroll to take the next step.
3. Fixed-Width Layouts
If your template is set to a fixed width, it will look broken on an iPhone. Modern templates must be fluid, scaling to 100% of the screen width regardless of the device.
4. Poor Contrast and Tiny Text
With our bright WA sun, glare on phone screens is a real factor. Stick to high-contrast dark text (at least 16px) for body copy so it's readable outside.
5. Forgetting the Outlook Factor
Outlook uses the Word rendering engine. If you don't use Outlook-specific fallbacks, your multi-column layout will collapse into a mess for your B2B clients.
